Bristol Demographics, Culture and Business

Bristol is a beautiful and vibrant city with a diverse population of around 433,000 people. It is the sixth biggest city in England and the 22nd most prosperous in Europe. 

As the capital of the South West Bristol has benefited from a redevelopment of its riverside areas. This has created fashionable waterfront stretches which are home to numerous cafés, bars, restaurants, clubs, arts and media centres. Bristol has an exciting nightlife with one of the best live music scenes in the country. 

Culture 

The city is famous for its music and film industries and was a finalist in the 2008 European Capital of Culture.  There is a thriving multicultural community including large African-Caribbean, Asian and Somali populations. The city is also politically diverse.  Up until recently the Liberal Democrats held the Council with a minority administration but in the last election gained enough seats to hold overall control. 


Business 

The wider Bristol area is home to 1,900 manufacturing companies.  There are large offices of major financial institutions including Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyd TSB, Natwest and numerous other large companies including Airbus, Rolls Royce and Somerfield are based here. 

In recent years the economy has depended on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries. With a population varying from investment bankers to students, media producers to leading names in medical research it is the perfect place for your research.
